Scotch Creek Mosquitos Update

Scotch Creek Mosquitos Update

From the contractor: Setetkwe Environmental Inc

We have been monitoring standing water in the known habitats in the Scotch Creek-Lee Creek area weekly since May 16.  To date, we have completed ground treatments on just under 9ha of flooded habitat.  We have done two aerial treatments of the habitat at the end of Hilliam Rd in the Scotch Creek delta (total 69 ha).

A crew will be out this weekend to check the sites again.  Shuswap Lake water level is still climbing, (very slowly) and it is likely to reach its final peak soon. Once the waters start to recede, we expect that there will be very few, if any, new larval hatches.

    1. I have been running into quite a few mossies this evening and last, June 13/14 2025. We are located just to the north side of Shuswap lake Provincial Park in Saratoga subdivision. If the mosquito larvae are not ‘treated’ it will be a very irritable summer for everyone that lives here or visits this summer. I have to ask, is this a new company that is conducting the spray program? Thanks for any info, Greg

  1. Hello Jay, thanks for the updates that you do! It doesn’t look like Lee Creek is being treated again? Even though we pay mosquito control on our taxes?
    Thanks

  2. Why doesn’t the company spray for mosquitoes at the N end of Seymour Arm? The mosquitoes are very bad up here!

    1. A couple of reasons, we don’t tax Seymour Arm residents for mosquito control, and it would likely be somewhat expensive due to your location. If the community decides they want it we can find out what the cost might be.

  3. Just to add to my earlier concerns, the mosquito situation in Scotch Creek is very good. If, as Jay said, the company has been at this for several years I hope they will continue. The ability for everyone the outdoors in a healthy way, including the many hundreds of campers in the parks, is GREATLY improved without this annoying and distracting problem every summer. Thanks!

    1. Hello,
Are they ever going to treat for mosquitoes in Lee Creek as we do pay for this in our taxes?
      Thanks
