Wildfire Update
The CSRD Shuswap Emergency Program (SEP) is in regular contact with BC Wildfire to determine the extent of wildfires and their potential impact to the communities in our area. Here is the latest info from SEP/BC Wildfire for our Seymour Arm fire as well as other fires in the Shuswap/CSRD area.
Hunakwa Lake Fire K41676 – Seymour Arm Evacuation Alert:
- An aerial survey was conducted today to more accurately map the fire, which is an estimated 1,100 hectares and is growing primarily away from the community.
- The fire behavior is being classified as Rank 2, which is lower than previously thought.
- The fire is growing slower than previous modelling.
- The fire is approximately 3.7 km away from the closest structure.
Bews Creek Fire K41656:
- Evacuation order remains for K3 Cat Skiing-Lodge, which has had a guard placed around it and sprinklers.
- Estimated size: 200 hectares
- Fire is being monitored, still classified out of control, no other resources necessary at this time.
- No threat to any other structures.
Yard Creek K41961
- Fire reported this morning, July 16, 2021
- Estimated size 0.5 hectare
- The fire is midway up the mountain slope, south of Yard Creek and smoke may be visible from the Trans-Canada Highway and other parts of the region.
- A BC Wildfire helicopter and initial attack crew was working on the fire. They report no current risk to people or structures.
- 100% fuel free perimeter
- rank 1 with pockets of rank 2
- 20% of perimeter blacklined 20 ft in ( essentially extinguished/wet down)
Gorge K41769
- No recent updates
- Last update – burning in remote location with only one small cabin potentially threatened. Owner notified.
- No current action due to no other values being threatened and cabin being deemed not defensible by BC Wildfire.
East Canoe Creek K41969
- New spot-sized fire reported afternoon of July 16, 2021
- In the area of the Larch Hills Trails
- Estimated size 0.01 hectare
- Still waiting for BCWS on any action being taken.
3 Valley Lake K41807
- Estimated size 22 hectares, classified as out of control.
- Crew has gone in to build access, but no other resources could be allocated at this time.
- Not currently deemed a threat to people or structures.
- Monitoring until available resources can be sent out.
